Following global trends in the orthopaedic industry

Ortopedijos technika, a member of Health Technology Cluster iVita, participated in the international orthopaedic industry exhibition and world congress OTWorld 2016, where the company presented its products, met with partners, established new contacts, and explored global trends in the production of orthopaedic technical devices.

The international orthopaedic technology and rehabilitation exhibition, held on May 3-6 in Leipzig, Germany, attracted a record number of visitors. A total of 21,300 visitors from 86 countries came to learn about the latest innovations in the field, which shape the future of prosthetics, orthotics, orthopaedic footwear, and technical rehabilitation devices, as well as to discuss improvements in the quality of assistive devices. This year, 542 companies presented their products and services, while 330 speakers from around the world delivered presentations.

The exhibition attracts more international visitors each time. This year, 37% of visitors came to Germany from abroad, and every second international visitor represented leading companies in the orthopaedic industry. Participants and visitors from distant countries such as Japan and South Africa are no longer surprising.

The main goals of the exhibition are to share information about innovations and industry trends, disseminate knowledge, conduct market research, and exchange experience. As always, the high expectations of visitors were fully met.

“Worldwide, around 15%, or approximately one billion people, do not receive the assistive devices they need, or their needs are only partially met. This is a huge challenge,” noted Klaus-Jürgen Lotz, President of the German Association of Orthopaedic Technology. “In order to make this support more accessible and improve the quality of patient care, specialists from around the world must join forces and find the best solutions by sharing their experience. The development of the orthopaedic industry is only possible internationally, through partnership-based solutions. This is exactly what OTWorld serves.”

The next OTWorld exhibition and congress in Leipzig will take place on May 8-11, 2018.

According to Rūta Vilemienė, General Director of Ortopedijos technika, “This year, a particularly significant technological leap could be observed compared to the situation two years ago. The range and possibilities of products printed with 3D printers have expanded greatly, and such products are moving closer to the end user. This year’s exhibition focused on 3D insoles and stump scanners. Trends show that in the future, more and more products will be produced using 3D printing. Our production designers, prosthetics specialists, and footwear technicians had a unique opportunity to discuss with colleagues from around the world and learn about the latest developments and trends in the orthopaedic industry. We are pleased to be equal partners of orthopaedic industry leaders, capable of offering world-class product quality.”

“We were pleasantly surprised by the strong interest in the products we presented at our stand this year, especially the new orthopaedic footwear and knitted orthoses collections. The contacts established are already turning into new projects,” said Export Manager Dovilė Kubilienė.
