Starting this September, the public institution Saugi pradžia together with partner De Futuro will implement the public health promotion project “Sit Less, Move More.” The initiative is designed for work teams in companies and organisations operating in Kaunas, where employees spend most of their working time sitting. The project is financed by the Kaunas City Municipality programme “Initiatives for Kaunas.”
The project aims to draw the attention of working-age people to their health, encourage employee physical activity, and reduce sedentary lifestyles in companies across Kaunas.
The sedentary lifestyle reduction programme will begin with an introductory event aimed at motivating employees to change their habits, providing specialised knowledge, and presenting the benefits of pedometers.
In the next stage, a professional trainer will carry out individual assessments of employees’ body stability in static posture and movement using standardised movement testing methods. The assessment will identify which muscles are hypertonic (under tension) and which are hypotonic (too relaxed or lacking strength). Based on the results, each employee will receive a personalised body balance correction programme.
The programme cycle will last five weeks and involve three employee groups with a total of 100 participants.
During the programme, employees will receive informational messages, advice, and motivational tasks encouraging movement and physical activity. The tasks will also promote teamwork, cooperation, and creativity.
The programme will conclude with a final event, during which a professional trainer will evaluate the achieved results and encourage participants to continue following their personalised programmes. Participants will also share their experiences from the programme.
